The Wind that Shakes the Barley - Movie Review
49
The wind that shakes the barley is a 2006 movie directed by Ken Loach. It is an Irish war drama starring Cillian Murphy (as Damien O'Donovan) and Padraic Delany (as Teddy O'Donovan). Its set in the war of independence against Britain where the 2 cork brothers joined the Irish Republican Army (I R A). This is one of the most moving movies I have ever seen. Although It is not that well known I would give it 5 STARS. It displays the hardships of the Irish people so well and showed how the war ripped family's apart. As a brother and an Irishman it connected to me so well. It taught me of the history of my country and how me and my brother's relationship would have been so different if this was the time in which we lived. I would definately say if you're thinking of going out and buying a new film this would be a great choice.
Storyline:
The story of two brothers. One about to move to London to train to be a doctor, the other joining the revolution against the British. Although when Damian is trying to leave to London he still can't get away from the trouble so he joins Teddy in the I.R.A. The movie follows them in their fight against the British and the effect that it has on everyone. Although when the south gains freedom but the north is still occupied the I.R.A splits and so do the brothers. This creates an unbearable situation with some horrible outcomes.
Here is another one of my movie reviews.
